A Kerala-based pawnbroker was robbed of 1,200 grams of gold
ornaments while travelling near the Moolehole check post en route to Kerala,
within the Bandipur tiger reserve in Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district. The
incident occurred on 21 November at approximately 6pm, but the jeweller,
identified as Vinu, only reported it to the Gundlupet Police Station two days
later on Saturday.
According to police reports, Vinu, son of Krishan, was
transporting the gold for jewellery making, having received orders from
Mandya's Rajesh Jewellers. While travelling with his driver, Sameer, they were
ambushed by a gang of 10 to 12 robbers who arrived in two vehicles. After
stopping their car on the roadside, the assailants seized the jewellery and
fled the scene.
Gundlupet police have registered a case, and Superintendent
of Police BT Kavitha has inspected the location. Kavitha stated, "We have
collected certain records of jewellery orders and other relevant documents.
Police are verifying all records and have intensified the investigation."
She also indicated that authorities suspect the involvement of a Kerala-based
robbery gang in this highway heist.
