Mysuru, 2 Oct

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday marked Gandhi Jayanti at the historic Gandhi Square in Mysuru, paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. He prayed for the strength to follow the paths shown by both leaders.

“We are trying to walk the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi. The country attained freedom under his leadership. His fight and sacrifice secured our independence. Remembering him, I pray for the strength to walk on the path shown by him,” Siddaramaiah said. He also described Shastri as the most honest person and prayed to follow his example.

Siddaramaiah attended a multi-religious prayer at Town Hall, where leaders from Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Christianity prayed for peace. Prizes were distributed to winners of essay competitions organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations for school, college, and postgraduate students.

The Chief Minister also visited Suttur Mutt near Chamundi foothills and met the seer, Shivarathri Deshikendra Swami. Former minister Tanveer Sait, District Minister HC Mahadevappa, local MLAs, and Congress leaders were present during the celebrations.
