Bengaluru, 12 Aug

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s Media and Communication Department Chairman and advocate Ramesh Babu, has written to the Chief Election Commissioner asking it to withdraw its remarks against Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Babu said the Election Commission of India (ECI) has a Constitutional duty under Article 324 and the Representation of the People Acts to ensure free and fair elections. He argued that Article 19(1)(a) guarantees citizens the right to raise genuine concerns about electoral integrity without facing intimidation.

Gandhi had alleged “vote theft” in the State Mahadevapura segment, citing over one lakh fake votes through duplicate entries, fake addresses, and misuse of Form-6.

Calling the ECI’s warning against Gandhi unconstitutional, Babu cited Supreme Court rulings affirming free and fair elections as a basic feature of democracy, and demanded a public clarification safeguarding citizens’ right to question electoral processes.
