MYSURU, 27 JULY

CPI (M) State Executive Secretary U Basavaraj on Sunday criticised the Union government for its pro-corporate policies and neglecting the interests of farmers, labourers and working-class people in the nation.

He was speaking after addressing the publicity rally organised by the District Unit of CPI (M) at Gandhisquare in Mysuru.

“The Union government is giving a red carpet welcome to the corporate houses” to loot forest, mine resources, while the common people were affected by inflation, rise in prices of essential commodities, he said.

He said that even though the Union government collected over Rs 50 lakh crore revenue annually from all states, including the 3 to 4 lakh crore from the states, it failed to protect the interests of the working class to curb inflation.

Even though the Centre was distributing free rations to over 70-80 crore people, 10-12 people still died of hunger daily in India, and around 45 per cent of the population was unemployed. The nation ranked 105 in the Global Hunger he added.

The income gap between the rich and poor increases at an alarming rate every year, he said, noting that 10 per cent of the population owns 80 per cent of the resources, while 90 per cent of the population owns only 10 per cent of the property, he said.
