Staff foil attempt to kidnap new-born in Raichur hospital

A man in disguise tried abducting a newborn from Raichur govt hospital but was caught by attendants; two others escaped, say police.

RAICHUR, 10 JULY

An attempt to abduct a newborn from the government hospital in Raichur was foiled by alert attendants and visitors, police said on Thursday. In the early hours of Wednesday, a group—reportedly dressed in saris—entered the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and targeted the maternity ward on the fourth floor, taking advantage of sleeping attendants. One suspect, disguised as a woman, tried to flee with a newborn but was confronted and caught after a brief struggle. Two other suspects managed to escape. The detained individual was handed over to Market Police Station.
