Yadgir, 21 June
Concerned parents alleged that the Government Kannada Lower Primary School in Parasapur, Shahapur taluk, Yadgir district, lacked a compound wall, and had turned into a cattle shed.
Private
individuals tied cattle inside the school premises, they alleged, due to which
the area is filled with cow dung and filth, creating an unhygienic environment
that was not conducive for learning.
The parents
claimed that the School Development Monitoring Committee (SDMC) –which is
supposed to observe school’s academic activities, infrastructure and other
operations – was completely absent. The SDMC President and its members are
inactive, they said.
“Every day, we
have to step on cow dung while entering the school. There's no space to play.
We want a clean and beautiful playground,” a student told Salar News.
Locals and parents
alike urged concerned officials to visit the school and ensure the children are
provided with all essential facilities.
“Authorities must
visit the school immediately and warn those responsible, ensuring a better
atmosphere for the students,” Venkatesh, a resident of Parasapur, told Salar
News.
“Students are
unable to conduct morning prayers properly. The education department officials
should intervene immediately,” another resident, Ningappa , added.
Residents urged
authorities to build a compound wall around the school.
“There is no
compound wall around the school. As a result, locals are tying cattle here. If
a compound wall is constructed, this issue will be resolved,” Venkappa Dore,
Gram Panchayat Member, Parasapur noted.
Deputy Director of
Public Instruction, (DDPI) Channabasappa Mudhol acknowledged the uncleanliness
of the premises.
Shahapur taluka
Block Education Officer YS Hargi and BRC Renuka Patil’s team visited the school
on Thursday to conduct an inspection.
"During the
visit, they recorded statements from members of the Biranoor Gram Panchayat and
the head teacher of Parasapur school. We have written letter to the Taluk
Panchayat Executive Officer, recommending the provision of several basic
facilities including drinking water, a compound wall, and toilets for the
school, in order to resolve the issues," Mudhol said.
