Farmers threaten to boycott Mysuru film city

Hundreds of farmers under the banner of Karnataka
Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene, led by farmer leaders Hosakote Basavaraju
and Ugranarasimhe gowda, on Friday held protests in Himmavu Industrial area,
urging the district administration to release compensation for the land
acquired by the KIADB to set up a film city in Himmavu Industrial area in
Nanjangud taluk.
The protesters shouted slogans against the State
government for the delay in releasing compensation for the farmers. They
threatened to intensify their stir, besides, they would not allow the government
to carry out the initial stages of filmcity development works it started in the
area.
Addressing the protesters, Hosakote Basavaraju
accused the State government of acquiring hundreds of acres of government land
cultivated by farmers over the past 60 to 70 years through the Karnataka
Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) in Himmavu, Adakanahalli, Hulimavu,
and surrounding villages.
The state government has acquired their land and set up a film city after promising them to provide compensation and jobs for land losers. So far, the government has failed to fulfil their demand, he said. Nanjangud tahsildar Shivakumar visited the spot.
