Bengaluru, 28 April
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday visited
the home of Bharath Bhushan, the Bengaluru-based tourist killed in last week’s terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and questioned his family for
nearly 12 hours.
Four NIA officials recorded an extensive statement from
Bhushan’s wife, Sujatha, at their Mathikere residence. The questioning focused
on the family's travel plans, their stay in Kashmir, and the events leading up
to the ambush. Sujatha was interrogated for around six hours, with
investigators seeking precise details about the travel agency used, itinerary,
accommodation, and the circumstances of the attack.
The NIA is attempting to trace the movements of the
terrorists involved. Sujatha was shown photos of over 14 suspects and asked for
possible identification. She was also asked whether her husband had any
interaction with the attackers and to describe their appearance, speech, or any
distinctive features. Based on her inputs, sketches of the assailants have
reportedly been prepared.
Officials also gathered behavioural cues from the
assailants, including the language spoken during the attack, to aid
identification.
Meanwhile, Revenue Department officials visited the Bhushan
residence on Monday to collect documentation required for the Rs 10 lakh
compensation announced by the government. Documents include bank details,
Aadhaar, PAN, and the death certificate.
The NIA is also expected to visit Shivamogga to question the family of Manjunath Rao, another Karnataka resident killed in the same attack.
