KOLAR, 4 APRIL
Kolar MP Mallesh Muniswamy has called on the Union
Government to intervene regarding the employment practices at Tata Electronics
in Narasapur, Kolar district, where iPhone assembly occurs. Speaking in the Lok
Sabha, Muniswamy highlighted concerns over the company's policy of terminating
employees after three years of service. He noted that while Tata Electronics
has employed large groups of approximately 27,000 workers, many are laid off
after three years, with only a small number being rehired, leaving the majority
stranded without jobs.
The MP questioned whether the company is complying with
labour laws and urged the Union Labour Minister to direct Tata Electronics not
to dismiss workers at the conclusion of their three-year tenure.
Additionally, during the budget discussions, Muniswamy advocated for the establishment of new railway lines in Kolar district to facilitate the transport of locally grown Mango, Tamarind, and Tomato. He emphasised that, despite the absence of perennial water sources, farmers in the region cultivate these crops in significant quantities, and improved marketing opportunities would benefit their economic conditions. He also proposed the introduction of a new train service to Tirupati via Madanapalli in Andhra Pradesh to assist pilgrims from the Kolar border area.
