MYSURU, 2 APRIL
Mysuru police have tightened security in sensitive areas
ahead of the High Court hearing on the reopening of a madrasa that was shut
down nine years ago, following the murder of right-wing activist Raju.
The high court will hear on 3 April a petition by Alima
Sadiya Trust, seeking the madrasa’s reopening.
Reserve forces have been deployed in key locations of
Narasimharaja assembly segment, especially the disputed site in
Kyathamaranahalli, which is dominated by Muslim community.
Mysuru district administration is planning to hold a third
meeting with leaders of two communities regarding the reopening of a religious
site in Kyathamaranahalli, which has been shut for nearly a decade, at the DC's
office on Thursday.
The first meeting was held on 14 March. Muslim leaders
requested permission to run a madrassa as before, saying that it would be used
only to impart religious education and that no prayers would be conducted there
or a mosque will be built.
Local Hindu leaders opposed this, saying that neither a
mosque nor a madrassa should be established there and suggested providing land
elsewhere for the madrassa.
Deputy Commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy, who is hearing both sides on behalf of the district administration, is to submit a report about the outcome of the meeting on 3 April to the high court.
