K'taka govt announces Rs 668 crore relief for farmers ahead of summer

KALABURAGI, 25 MARCH
Good news for the farmers in Kalaburagi district, who were
struggling without being able to grow crops during this scorching summer: The
state government has announced a total compensation of Rs 667.73 crore for
2,36,933 farmers in the district under crop insurance and crop loss schemes,
said Priyank Kharge, the minister for rural development, panchayat raj, and
information technology.
Sharing this update on social media, the minister said it is
a record disbursement of crop insurance relief by the state government.
A total of 2,04,073 farmers in Kalaburagi district, who
cultivated pigeon pea (tur), green gram (moong), black gram (urad), soybean,
cotton and other crops, had enrolled in the 2024–25 Kharif season for the crop
insurance scheme. They have been sanctioned Rs 575.194 crore as insurance
compensation.
In the district, 4.36 lakh farmers cultivate these crops.
Among them, 2,01,847 farmers who had reported crop damage under local natural
disaster claims have already received Rs 76.34 crore as interim compensation.
The state government has fixed a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 7,550 per quintal for pigeon pea (tur), with an additional Rs 450 per quintal as an incentive. A total of ₹108.30 crore has been disbursed to 9,189 farmers under this scheme.
