Mahabaleshwara festival begins atop Chamundi Hills

The temple was constructed by Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana in 1155.

The Brahma Rathotsava of Sri Mahabaleshwara Swamy has begun atop Chamundi Hill with all rituals and religious fervour on Thursday. Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar joined hundreds of devotees in the celebration. 

The idol of Mahabaleshwara adorned with a golden crown was taken out in a flower-bedecked chariot around the hill during auspicious timing between 7.55am and 8.25am. A performance by the police band added to the fervour.

 As a prelude, various rituals began at the temple on 13 March. Vrishabha Vahana puja was held on Wednesday, along with Panchami Kalasha Rohana and Gajarohana.

On Friday morning, Saptami Ashwarohana and Bhootavahana will be performed. Saturday night will witness Ashtami Theertha Snana, Pallakki Utsava and Andolikarohana. Navami Panchopachara, Kailasa Vahana and Shayanotsava will be held on Sunday evening, followed by Dashami and Mahabhisheka on Monday morning, said the secretary of Chamundeshwari Kshetra Development Authority.
