Bengaluru, 28 Dec
In a significant move to combat the
growing menace of fake unreserved railway ticket rackets, the South Western
Railway (SWR), Bengaluru Division, has introduced a QR code-based ticketing
system at key railway stations in the City.
The new system, launched on a pilot basis at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna
(KSR) Railway Station, employs thermal printers for rapid ticket generation.
Speaking about the initiative, Trinetra, Divisional Commercial Manager, SWR
Bengaluru Division, explained, "We have set up two counters with thermal
printers at the main entrance of the KSR Railway Station. These printers can
issue tickets in just two seconds, significantly reducing waiting times and
streamlining the ticketing process."
This advanced system is not limited to KSR station. “Similar setups have been
introduced at other major stations, including Majestic, Yeshwantpur, and KR
Puram,” Trinetra added. The innovative technology not only speeds up the
ticketing process but also ensures tamper-proof ticket issuance, addressing a
longstanding challenge for the railway division.
Thermal printing technology has proven to be a game-changer. Unlike traditional
printers, which take approximately 20 seconds to print a ticket, thermal
printers can produce one in just two to three seconds. The SWR hopes that this
time-efficient system will improve customer convenience and deter
counterfeiters.
The QR code-based ticketing initiative is expected to be a key step in ensuring
a seamless and secure travel experience for railway passengers in Bengaluru. -Salar
