MANDYA, 19 DEC
Mandya city is poised to host the
87th All-India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana for the third time in three decades,
taking place from Friday to Sunday. Preparations are complete with the venue
set up over a sprawling 70 acres, accompanied by a separate 60-acre parking
area located near Srinivasapura village on the Mandya-Mysuru expressway.
Kannada enthusiasts have begun flocking to the Sugar Town of Karnataka.
On Thursday, Sammelana president Go
Ru Channabasappa was formally welcomed at the event's entrance. Infographics
detailing highlights of the three-day programme, accommodation and transport
facilities, along with significant debates and events, have been prepared for
attendees.
Approximately 2,500 workers,
including 750 chefs from Navaneeth Caterers in Mysuru, have been working
tirelessly to prepare local delicacies such as one lakh holige sweets, Badusha,
Mysuru Pak, Laddus, and other offerings for participants. However, the district
administration's ban on non-vegetarian meals has sparked controversy, leading
Kannada activists and writers, led by Rajendraprasad, to organise a collection
of chicken, sheep, and goats from local villages to serve non-veg food at the
venue.
The Mandya district administration
has established 450 book stalls, 350 commercial stalls, and 55 departmental
stalls to showcase various achievements. Additionally, 100 food counters will
cater to attendees, with 40 set aside for elected representatives, ensuring
health and safety regulations are met. -Salar
