Mysuru, 8 Nov
Amid allegations of notices served
to farmers by Waqf Board alleging encroachment, another row has surfaced. This
time it is around a land parcel bearing survey number 257 at Rangasamudra
village of T Narasipura taluk, coming under the limits of Varuna Assembly
segment represented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The land is mentioned as
Khabaristan (graveyard) and as Waqf property in Record of Rights, Tenancy and
Crops (RTC) issued by Revenue Department January 2022.
State Sugarcane Growers’
Association Vice President Attahalli Devaraj said the land has been used as
burial grounds by both Hindus and Muslims and tombs have also been constructed
in the land parcel. The land was identified as Kasavaiahanathopu (grove) in
land records before the khata was issued, residents said.
As Cauvery River is flowing hardly
a hundred metres away from this land, drinking water supply is also being
supplied from this spot and the villagers are upset with the government.
Devaraj said he will launch a
statewide protest if the government fails to rectify the errors in the
documentation.
T Narasipura tahsildar Suresh Achar
said the Revenue Department is collecting details of land registrations,
documents mentioning Waqf properties, khatas issued to them and notices to
farmers at Rangasamudra village as per the directions from Deputy Commissioner.
