Amid prohibitory orders, Mahisha Dasara celebration was concluded peacefully at Town Hall in Mysuru on Sunday where writers and progressive thinkers offered floral tributes to a bronze mini idol of the demon king and public meetings were also held.

Police had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in Mysuru, including at Chamundi Hills and deployed personnel across the City. Besides, police neither allowed Mahisha Mandalothsava celebration committee members to hold events near Mahishasura statue in the hills nor processions or public rallies in the city. After this, the organisers dropped the plan of offering floral tributes to the statue of Mahishasura atop the hills.

Addressing a gathering at Town Hall, Mahisha Mandalothsava celebration committee convener and former city mayor Purushottam expressed his displeasure with district administration and police for not allowing them to celebrate atop Chamundi Hills despite them assuring to hold the event peacefully without any disturbance to social harmony. As the State government did not allow them to offer floral tributes to their king, he said members of his committee would not allow the State government to inaugurate Naada Habba Dasara celebrations atop Chamundi Hills on 3 October.
