BENGALURU, 20 AUG
With the rising
number of cybercrimes in Bengaluru and across Karnataka, a senior police
official has called on the State government to establish more Cybercrime,
Economic Offences, and Narcotics (CEN) police stations throughout the state.
“The staff at CEN
stations is currently inadequate, and their limited technical knowledge is
delaying the resolution of cybercrime cases,” the official told Salar News.
In 2020, the State
Police registered 11,000 cybercrime cases, but this number nearly doubled to
22,000 by 2023.
Elsewhere in
Bengaluru, there is one CEN police station in every district police
headquarters. In the Capital City, police jurisdiction is divided into eight
zones and 24 sub-divisions. The present seven CEN police stations in Bengaluru
cover only select sub-divisions. To manage the increase in workload, each
district should have at least four CEN police stations and all the 24
sub-divisions in Bengaluru City should have CEN stations, the police official
said.
The official said
the police department’s information technology division has to provide adequate
training to the staff posted at CEN police stations and assign the staff
special projects to hone and test their skills at solving cybercrimes. –Salar
