Centre announces Rs 3,750 cr railway projects for Tumakuru

Union government has proposed three new railway projects at Rs 3,750 crore across 118 kilometres in Tumakuru Lok Sabha Constituency.

 

This was announced after a meeting chaired by Minister of State for Railways V Somanna and attended by Lok Sabha members from Karnataka, officials from Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Highways Authority of India and State Public Works Department in Bengaluru on Saturday. The meeting took stock of the progress of 375km of National Highways (an expenditure totalling Rs 6,400 crore) and railway overpasses in the State.

 

The three main projects announced for Tumakuru Lok Sabha constituency are Sira-Madhugiri Bairenahalli Four-Lane Road (52km), a bypass road to Tumakuru city (45 km) and white-topping of Old NH-206 from Bhatwadi to Mallasandra (21km).

 

Ministry of Railways also approved five new overpasses at Rs 350 crore and they are designed to replace level crossings.

 

The meeting reviewed the works on NH-48 (Nelamangala to Tumakuru), NH-206 (Mallasandra to Karadi). The two-lane NH-150(A) from KB Cross to Nelligere will be converted to four lanes. Also, single-lane highways such as NH-234 (Huliyar to Sira) stretch and NH-544E (Karnataka to Andhra border via Sira town) will be developed into a two-lane road.

 

The State government was requested in the meeting to submit a proposal to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to upgrade a 347km stretch connecting Malavalli, Maddur, Kunigal, Tumkuru, Koragere, Madhugiri, Pavagada, Kalyanadurga and Ballari to national highway status. These initiatives are part of Bharatmala Pariyojana and other schemes of Central government. -Salar News
