North Korea vows to arrest those responsible for failed ship launch
North Korea vowed to arrest those responsible for the failed launch of a 5,000-ton warship on 21 May in Chongjin. Kim Jong Un blamed negligence. The ship, now damaged, is under repair and investigation has begun, aiming for readiness by late June.

4 dead and 17 trapped in landslides in southwestern China
At least 4 people were killed and 17 remain trapped after landslides struck Guizhou province in southwest China on 23 May. Two bodies were found in Changshi and two in Qingyang village, where 19 people were buried. Power outages affected Guowa township.

Basavaraju, 26 other slain Naxalites carried cumulative bounty of Rs 3.33 cr in Chhattisgarh: Police
Basavaraju, CPI (Maoist) general secretary, and 26 other Naxalites were killed in a major encounter on 21 May in Chhattisgarh’s Abhujmad. The slain carried bounties totalling Rs 3.33 crore. Arms and explosives were recovered. Two DRG jawans also died.

A forest fire near the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector, Poonch district, triggered multiple landmine explosions on 23 May, officials said. No casualties were reported. Army, forest officials, and locals are working to douse the blaze in the region.

UK to roll out chemical castration for sex offenders in bid to cut reoffense
On 22 May, Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced the UK will begin using chemical castration in 20 prisons to reduce sex offender reoffending and ease prison overcrowding. The move follows a sentencing review by ex-Justice Secretary David Gauke.
