Members of the cast of Tamil film 'Parasakthi' joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi in celebrating the harvest festival of Pongal at an event organised in the national capital on Wednesday.
Actors Sivakarthikeyan and Ravi Mohan, along with music composer G V Prakash Kumar, met the prime minister at the residence of Union Minister L Murugan. The interaction has been viewed in certain quarters as an attempt to reach out to the Tamil community ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
Sivakarthikeyan said it was always a privilege to meet the prime minister. Speaking to reporters after the event, he said holding Pongal celebrations in Delhi conveyed a strong message of national unity and cultural inclusiveness.
Ravi Mohan said he was deeply moved by the warmth shown by Prime Minister Modi. “The prime minister welcomed us with a smile, and it was a memorable experience,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to L Murugan for extending the invitation to the 'Parasakthi' team, Mohan said it was a moment of pride for Tamilians that the festival was celebrated in the heart of the national capital in the presence of the prime minister.
Music composer G V Prakash Kumar said on X that verses from Thiruvasagam were rendered during the Pongal 2026 celebrations in Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Union Minister Murugan.
The film 'Parasakthi' is set against the backdrop of protests opposing the “imposition” of Hindi in Tamil Nadu during the 1960s. The Tamil Nadu unit of the Congress has raised objections to the portrayal of former prime minister Indira Gandhi in the film.
