Chennai, 13 January

The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress on Tuesday called for a ban on the Tamil film Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, alleging that the film deliberately twists historical facts and presents a distorted narrative that maligns the Indian National Congress and its leaders.

The demand comes at a time when the film has already faced scrutiny following objections raised during the certification process by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

In a strongly worded statement, Tamil Nadu Youth Congress state senior vice president Arun Bhaskar alleged that the movie includes “fabricated” incidents and misleading portrayals aimed at spreading false information about the Congress party and prominent national leaders from the past.

Listing a series of objections, the Youth Congress said it strongly rejected specific sequences depicted in the film and condemned them as historically inaccurate.

The statement claimed that in 1965, the Congress government had never officially mandated that Post Office forms be filled only in Hindi across all states, calling the depiction a complete fabrication created to defame the party. It further objected to a scene in which Sivakarthikeyan’s character is shown meeting former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, after which she is portrayed as speaking in a villainous manner.

The Youth Congress also alleged that the film falsely shows Indira Gandhi visiting Coimbatore on  12 February, 1965, witnessing a train being set on fire and accepting signatures opposing Hindi imposition  events that the party categorically denied ever taking place.

Strong objections were additionally raised against the film’s end credits, reiterating concerns over the portrayal of Indira Gandhi and calling the sequence fictional and misleading.

Asserting that the film is based on the makers’ “own fabricated imagination”, the Youth Congress demanded that the contentious scenes be removed and sought a public apology from the production team. The party also appended the hashtag #BanParasakthiMovie to its statement.

Written and directed by Sudha Kongara, 'Parasakthi' stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa and Sreeleela in lead roles. The film is set against a politically charged backdrop centred on Tamil Nadu’s resistance to Hindi imposition.

After facing multiple certification-related issues, the film was released in theatres on  10 January.
