Bengaluru, 17 May

A skin donation awareness programme and bike rally were organised in Bengaluru on Sunday by the Rotary BMCRI Skin Bank, the Department of Plastic Surgery at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Rotary Bangalore Midtown and several biking groups to promote awareness on skin donation for burn victims.

Following the indoor programme, a bike rally led by Dr Zaffer Mumtaz was flagged off from the Bangalore Medical College premises and concluded at Vidhana Soudha.

The indoor programme was held at the PMSSY Building Auditorium of BMCRI and attended by doctors, students, bikers, Rotary members and medical professionals. Sarfaraz Khan, personal secretary to the Housing and Minorities Minister, participated in the event.

Medical leadership was represented by Dr Deepak (Medical Superintendent) and Dr Divya Prakash (Special Officer for PMSSY), both of whom provided constant encouragement and administrative backing to make the initiative possible.

Dr Smita Segu explained the importance of skin donation, methods of harvesting and processing skin, and its role in treating severe burn injuries. BMCRI officials Dr Deepak and Dr Divya Prakash extended administrative support for the initiative.

Riding groups, including HOG Tusker Chapter Bengaluru, SIR and Highway Cruiserz, participated in the rally.

“The program successfully achieved its core objective, which was to take a critical medical concern to the general public and create widespread awareness. This mission was beautifully amplified with the help of the biking communities, whose powerful engines helped carry the vital message of skin donation directly to the public,” a press release said.
