Bengaluru, 4 May
Operations
at Cubbon Park Metro Station in Bengaluru were suspended on Monday morning
after a power outage disrupted services. BMRCL announced the temporary closure
at 7.26am on Monday and confirmed the restoration of normal services at 11am
the same day.
With
Cubbon Park station being a key access point, passengers have been forced to
adjust their routes at short notice. The disruption triggered frustration among
passengers, many of whom questioned the reliability of metro services at a key
Bengaluru station on the Purple Line.
As early
as 9am, Purple Line passengers saw a notice on the time display boards stating:
“Cubbon Park metro station is closed and trains are not stopping there. The
rest of the line remains operational.”
Passengers
said the station was pitch dark when the disruption occurred, with only the
lights from passing trains offering some visibility. Commuters reportedly turn
on their phone torch lights to navigate the platform and access areas.
Reports
suggest that the disruption followed a spell of intense rainfall that swept
across parts of Bengaluru in the early hours of the day. Although the rain was
brief, it was strong enough to impact infrastructure, leading to the power
failure at the centrally located Metro stop. BMRCL has not specified the exact
cause of the power failure.
The Cubbon Park station remains one of the most important access points to Vidhana Soudha, MG Road, Cubbon Park and the Chinnaswamy Stadium area
