Actor Yash’s upcoming film 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' has run into legal trouble days after the release of its first teaser, following a complaint filed with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Social activist Dinesh Kallahalli has approached the CBFC, alleging that the teaser contains scenes that are obscene, sexually explicit and morally offensive. In his complaint addressed to CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi, he claimed that the promotional video includes visuals that are grossly vulgar in nature.
The complainant stated that the teaser is being circulated widely across social media platforms without any effective restrictions, thereby exposing the general public, including minors, to content that is legally impermissible and socially harmful.
Referring to constitutional provisions, the activist argued that while freedom of speech and expression is protected, the content shown in the teaser exceeds permissible limits. He cited Supreme Court observations that obscenity and sexually explicit material do not enjoy constitutional protection.
The complaint also referred to provisions under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, the Certification of Films Rules, and CBFC guidelines, stressing that films, trailers and other promotional material must conform to standards of decency, morality and social responsibility.
Seeking urgent intervention, the complainant urged the CBFC to review the teaser, remove the disputed scenes, restrict its circulation and initiate appropriate legal and regulatory action against those associated with the film.
“The present representation deserves urgent consideration as it concerns public morality, protection of minors and the rule of law,” the complaint stated.
The makers of the film are yet to respond to the allegations.
Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Geetu Mohandas, 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' stars Yash in the lead role alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria.
