Bengaluru, 9 Oct
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya flagged “anomalies” in
the Metro fare hike, claiming that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited
(BMRCL) had increased the tickets by 105 per cent, as against the 50-55 per
cent recommended by the Fare Fixation Committee (FCC).
Surya claimed that there were multiple
“basic” mathematical errors in the FCC report released by the BMRCL. The Namma
Metro’s fares were hiked in February.
“Even High School students do better
mathematical calculations than what BMRCL did for fare revision. Have written
to the Managing Director of the BMRCL to address and rectify the anomalies in
the revised metro fare structure.,” Surya wrote on X.
“BMRCL has implemented an illogical fare
increase of 105 per cent which is not in consonance with the FFC recommendation
too,” he said. “The actual fare increase is around 50-55 per cent with correct application
of the formula given by FFC itself. In one particular instance, the Maintenance
& Administration cost was shown to have increased by a staggering 366 per
cent, whereas the actual increase should be around 118.5 per cent.”
Surya urged the Karnataka government to rectify the “burden on Metro riders” and correct the anomalies.
