Bengaluru, 4 Oct
KRS party workers in Bengaluru are facing police action
after they staged a protest march on 30 September, disregarding a Karnataka High Court
order banning such demonstrations outside of Freedom Park.
Around 60–70 party members, led by
Bengaluru West District President Amit Rebello, marched on a public road in
Gandhi Nagar despite being formally denied permission. They were arrested and
later released on station bail.
Following their release, Bengaluru Police
said the accused continued to issue death threats to investigating officers and
spread “false news” on social media. Additional sections have now been invoked,
and investigations are ongoing.
The protest request, submitted to create
“public awareness on people’s rights,” had been rejected by Upparpet Police
Inspector as two other demonstrations were already scheduled at Freedom Park.
Police reminded the party that, as per the High Court’s order, protests,
marches, and dharnas are not allowed elsewhere in the city.
Authorities have urged adherence to legal provisions and warned that further violations will be dealt with strictly.
