Bengaluru, 4 Sept

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the launch of the Second Phase of the KC Valley Project, which aims to fill 272 lakes in Kolar district by supplying it with treated sewage water from the Lakshmi Sagar Pump House.

The second phase project is set to be completed by December 2025, and implemented at a cost of Rs 446 crore.

“Since there are no rivers in the Kolar and Chikkaballapur regions, this project will benefit farmers,” he said on X. “The projects we undertook during our previous tenure to develop groundwater in the districts surrounding Bengaluru have been a significant step toward improving the living standards of farmers in this region.”

The KC Valley project gets its name from the Koramangala-Challaghatta valley drainage system in the City.

Siddaramaiah also dismissed "misinformation" around the project.

“It has been established that there is no harm to crops or livestock,” he said. “This water is not used for drinking.”

He noted that “the groundwater level has improved in the areas where the lakes have been filled”.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar noted the project's connection with the Yettinahole project.

“This project of filling lakes with water will contribute to the development of agricultural activities in the arid regions of Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts,” he added.
