BENGALURU, 29 AUG

The Karnataka High Court on Friday scheduled for 15 September the hearing of petitions filed by fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya and Daljit Mahal, director of the now-liquidated United Breweries Holdings Limited (UBHL). The petitioners are seeking detailed bank account statements relating to recoveries made against their debts.

They have requested that banks be directed to provide comprehensive statements showing the dues owed by them, UBHL, and other certificate debtors, along with details of interest accruals, credits for recoveries already made, and assets utilised, as per the amended recovery certificate issued by the Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) on 10 April, 2017.

Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya, appearing for the petitioners, argued that winding-up orders against Kingfisher Airlines and UBHL have attained finality, with banks recovering far more than ordered. While the DRT directed payment of Rs 6,200 crore, Poovayya claimed that banks have already realised Rs 10,200 crore, and even the Finance Minister has acknowledged recoveries of around Rs 14,000 crore.

The petitioners have also sought a stay on further recovery proceedings and disclosure of unutilised assets still held by the banks.
