BENGALURU, 16 AUG

Eshwar B Khandre, the State Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister, has instructed officials at biological parks to install mesh on the windows and photography openings of all safari vehicles.

This decision follows an alarming incident on 15 August, when a leopard managed to enter a safari vehicle at the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BNP) in the City, scratching a 12-year-old boy before it was eventually removed.

The BNP features India’s largest leopard safari, covering 20 hectares, and showcases semi-wild leopards that have mostly been rescued from the surrounding areas of Bengaluru.

Minister Khandre emphasised the need for stringent precautions during safaris, stating, "I have instructed the officials to take all necessary precautionary measures during the safari.” He also urged that appropriate warnings be issued to tourists and that a warning message should be printed on the safari tickets.
