Following remarks
by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat suggesting that leaders should step aside at 75,
Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has shifted focus from age to Prime Minister
Narendra Modi's contributions to the nation. As Modi approaches his 75th
birthday later this year, Kharge highlighted the Prime Minister's previous
assertion that 75 should be a cut-off age for politicians, prompting
speculation about whether he might transition to a 'magdarshak mandal'.
Kharge stated,
"We are not targeting the Prime Minister nor are we interested in his age;
we are interested in his work and contribution to the country. However, since
he is turning 75 in a few months, there is speculation about his potential
change in role."
The discussion of
leadership changes in Karnataka was also addressed by Kharge, who emphasised
that the Congress leadership remains united and clear that no changes are being
considered.
These
remarks come in light of Jairam Ramesh's critique of Modi, insinuating that
Bhagwat's comments serve as a subtle message regarding the Prime Minister's
upcoming milestone. Ramesh tweeted, "Poor, award-winning Prime Minister!
What a homecoming—reminded by the RSS chief about his impending 75th
birthday." He added, "One arrow, two targets!"
