1 dead as K’taka braces for a week of heavy rain
Red alert issued for heavy rainfall in Karnataka with school closures and flood warnings in multiple districts till 17 June

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for several districts in Karnataka, including Hubballi-Dharwad, Gadag and parts of Haveri. It also issued a seven-day warning for almost all districts of Karnataka till 17 June due to the southwest monsoon.
For 13 June, a red alert remains in place for Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts.
Meanwhile, a man is feared to have drowned after being swept away in a low-lying waterlogged area near Mavanur Road on the outskirts of Hubballi, following heavy rains on Wednesday night.
Hubballi taluka Tehsildar Kallangouda Patil told ANI, "A search operation has been ongoing for the last 10 hours.”
District authorities have announced a holiday for all anganwadi centres, schools and PU and degree colleges in Dharwad, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada on Thursday. People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu warned of floods in the catchment areas of Benni Halla and Tuppari Halla. Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Lakshmi Priya K said rains are anticipated till 20 June.
