In a candid letter to the State police on Friday, newly appointed Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) MA Saleem, laid out his vision for policing, urging officers at all levels to shift from an "accused-centric" approach to a "victim-centric" one. He emphasised the need for transparent, professional, and humane policing that restores public confidence and delivers justice swiftly and decisively.
Saleem called for collective efforts to transform the police department into a public-friendly institution committed to law and order, communal harmony, and citizen safety. His 10-point directive prioritised effective crime prevention, timely investigation, and proactive measures against threats to public peace.
The letter came a day after Saleem addressed police personnel in a virtual introductory session on Thursday, dispensing with ceremonial salutes, handshakes, and the customary bouquets.
Acknowledging the human side of the force, he stressed the value of police personnel as the department’s "greatest asset," advocating better work-life balance, mental wellness, and recognition for good service.
Special focus was placed on women and child safety, enforcing preventive laws, and creating awareness among the public.
"Let’s commit to transparency, honesty, and efficiency to make Karnataka the safest and most liveable state in the country," Saleem concluded.
