MANGALURU, 17 MAY
In a significant disruption to daytime train services, some routes between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will be suspended for 154 days starting 1 June due to ongoing railway electrification work in the Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Road section, announced the South Western Railway on Saturday.
The cancelled services include the Yeshvantpur–Mangaluru Gomateshwara Express on Saturdays from 31 May to 1 November, and the Mangaluru–Yeshvantpur Weekly Express on Sundays from 1 June 1 to 2 November. Additionally, the Yeshvantpur–Mangaluru Tri-weekly Express (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays) will be suspended from 1 June to 30 August. Other affected trains include various Tri-weekly Express services between Yeshvantpur, Karwar, and Mangaluru.
Passenger associations and travel committees have voiced their concerns regarding the cancellations, highlighting a lack of consultation and the absence of alternative arrangements. They have urged railway authorities to find ways to manage the infrastructure work without causing undue inconvenience to the public.
