BENGALURU, 6 MAY

To enhance public safety and crime prevention, Bengaluru Police have geo-tagged over 5,35,815 CCTV cameras across the city under the MCCTNS (Mobile Companion for Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems) initiative, Commissioner B Dayananda announced on Tuesday.

This marks a massive addition of 3,03,104 cameras since 1 January, 2024, when the city had just 2.32 lakh surveillance units. The initial target of reaching 5 lakh cameras by mid-2025 has been exceeded well ahead of schedule, with the milestone crossed by 30 April 2025.

“All cameras are now geo-tagged, enabling police to quickly locate surveillance footage and boost efficiency in crime detection,” Dayananda said. The cameras have been strategically installed across residential areas, commercial zones, traffic junctions, schools, hospitals, and banks.

Geo-tagging on the MCCTNS platform also strengthens smart patrolling, real-time crime analysis, and lays the groundwork for future digital policing. The Commissioner highlighted the importance of such systems as Bengaluru continues to expand and hosts frequent high-profile events.

“This is a record achievement in surveillance expansion within a single year,” he noted, adding that precise location data improves police response times and arrest success rates.

The city police reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging technology for a safer, smarter Bengaluru.
