Bengaluru, 28 April

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is likely to be divided into three separate municipal corporations, with the State Government set to proceed once the Governor grants formal assent to the Greater Bengaluru Bill.

Sources told Salar News on Monday that the Governor has given in-principle approval for the division, provided the number of corporations does not exceed seven. The government plans to split the City — with a population exceeding 1.5 crore — into three corporations: Bengaluru Central, Bengaluru North, and Bengaluru South, each overseeing 150 wards and serving around 50 lakh residents.

A new oversight body, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), will supervise all three corporations.

The government also plans to expand the city’s administrative boundaries by including areas such as Electronics City, Attibele, Jigani Industrial Area, Bommasandra, Bagaluru, Rajanukunte, Hesaraghatta, Dasanapura, Makali, Tavarekere, Kumbalagodu, Kaggalipura, and Harohalli. Several gram panchayats in these regions may lose their independent status.

A preliminary notification will be issued soon, followed by a 30-day window for public objections and suggestions. A final notification will be released after reviewing the feedback.

Until the reorganisation is completed, the State Government will retain administrative control over the BBMP.
