Bengaluru, 13 April
In a renewed crackdown on foreign nationals residing illegally in the City,
the Crime Branch (CCB) has registered five separate FIRs against homeowners for
renting properties to foreigners without following legal procedures.
As per regulations, landlords must submit ‘Form-C’ to the
Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 24 hours of accommodating
a foreign national, and only after receiving clearance.
However, acting on intelligence inputs, the Narcotics
Wing of the CCB found that several property owners had rented out homes to at
least 10 foreign nationals without submitting Form-C or obtaining FRRO
approval. Raids were conducted, and cases have been booked under the Foreigners
Act and relevant IPC sections.
The offences were registered in Ramamurthy Nagar,
Banaswadi, Parappana Agrahara, Soladevanahalli, and Varthur police station
limits. Police confirmed the foreign nationals lacked valid documents and were
produced before the FRRO. They have been sent to the Foreigners Detention
Centre pending further proceedings.
This comes days after a similar operation saw two foreign
nationals deported after being tracked down in Kengeri and Amruthahalli.
Police have urged landlords to strictly comply with foreigner registration laws, warning that further raids are planned as part of a broader enforcement drive across Bengaluru.
