Bengaluru, 24 MARCH
The Bengaluru
Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has launched five new mobile repair
vans to provide swift assistance during road accidents and breakdowns,
minimizing disruptions to public transport. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy
flagged off the vehicles, underscoring the government's commitment to improving
urban mobility.
Reddy announced
that BMTC has already deployed 1,336 electric buses, with plans to expand the
fleet further in response to the need for better transportation facilities and
efforts to reduce air pollution.
Currently, BMTC
operates 6,835 buses, running an average of 5,875 schedules daily across the
city and suburban routes. To address traffic congestion and minor accidents
that often lead to delays, BMTC plans to station at least one mobile repair van
in each zone, as well as at major Transport Terminus and key bus depots.
Two mobile vans are operational in the Marathahalli Outer Ring Road and Kempegowda Bus Station, with new vans set to be deployed in prime locations including Shivajinagar and Yeshwanthpur.
