BENGALURU, 23 MARCH
US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has laid off approximately 180
employees at its Engineering Technology Centre in Bengaluru as part of a global
workforce reduction initiative, according to sources. Boeing, which employs
around 7,000 staff in India—a crucial market for the firm—has faced various
global challenges.
Last year, Boeing announced a global workforce cut of about
10 per cent. The insider revealed that the layoffs at the Boeing India
Engineering Technology Center occurred during the December quarter of 2024.
Although there has been no official statement from Boeing, the source indicated
that strategic adjustments were undertaken that affected a limited number of
positions, ensuring no detrimental impact on customer service or government
operations.
While some roles have been eliminated, the company has also created new positions, maintaining a measured approach to reductions in India with a focus on sustaining customer service, safety, and quality standards. The Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) in Bengaluru and Chennai is responsible for complex advanced aerospace projects. Boeing's wholly-owned engineering and technology campus in Bengaluru represents one of its largest investments outside the United States. Furthermore, the company sources approximately USD 1.25 billion annually from more than 300 suppliers in India, as stated on its website.
