BENGALURU, 16 MARCH
The medical education department (MED) has issued a show
cause notice to a doctor from Victoria Hospital for allegedly assaulting her
children and elderly in-laws, officials said on Sunday.
The action follows a video of the assault by Dr
Priyadarshini, an emergency medical officer at Bangalore Medical College and
Research Institute (BMCRI), going viral recently.
"Reports indicate that she has been harassing them for
the past 10 years. She had already filed for divorce but allegedly went to her
in-laws' residence and physically attacked them. A case has been registered at
a Bengaluru police station in connection with this incident," the notice
said.
A senior police officer said the matter came to light on 14
March when the video went viral. The doctor's father-in-law approached
complained to Annapurneshwari Nagar police, following which a case was
registered.
The doctor was arrested and released on station bail on the
same day, the officer said.
"On the direction of MED Principal Secretary Mohammad
Mohsin, Dr Priyadarshini of Victoria Hospital has been asked to submit a
written explanation regarding the incident, failing which further disciplinary
action will be taken," an MED statement said.
Mohsin said such behaviour brings embarrassment to the department, adding that he immediately directed Director of Medical Education Dr Sujatha Rathod to issue a show cause notice to Dr Priyadarshini.
