Six people, including a toddler, were injured after an LPG
cylinder exploded at a house in Nagappa Reddy Layout, Kaggadasapura, in
Byappanahalli police station limits on Thursday morning.
The impact of the blast was severe, causing three walls of the house to
collapse, police said.
The injured have been identified as Manjunath, 34; Pavithra, 32; Aneesh, 33;
Mamatha, 32; Ishan, 3; and Hanumanthappa, 70. They were immediately rushed to
Victoria Hospital for treatment.
According to preliminary reports, the explosion occurred around 6am when a
family member attempted to switch on a gas geyser connected to the LPG
cylinder.
According to officials, during the rescue operations, Fire and Emergency
Services personnel were shocked to find 10 commercial LPG cylinders and three
5-kg cylinders stored inside the house. It is suspected that either the house
owner or a tenant may have been involved in unauthorised LPG distribution or illegal
refilling activities.
Joint Commissioner of Police, East, Ramesh Bhanot, confirmed that police teams
inspected the site and registered a case at Byappanahalli police station.
"The injured have been hospitalized, and investigations are underway to determine
why such a large quantity of LPG cylinders was stored in the house. We are
probing whether the house owner or tenant was involved in illegal gas
distribution," he said.
