Bengaluru, 8 Feb
Bengaluru witnessed massive traffic congestion on Saturday as the City braced for two major events—the Aero India Show 2025 and the Global Investors Summit here. The heavy influx of visitors, delegates, and participants led to severe bottlenecks, particularly around Yelahanka and Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) leaving commuters stranded for hours.
With the much-anticipated Aero India Show set to commence on 10 February at the
Yelahanka Air Station, the surrounding areas are already feeling the impact.
Several videos circulating on social media showed a 5kms long traffic jam, as
vehicles crawled through choked roads in Yelahanka on Saturday morning.
In response, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) issued an alert, urging
commuters to cooperate. "Severe traffic congestion at BSF Campus Yelahanka
Air Force towards Airport Road. Commuters are requested to cooperate," the
police said.
Passengers heading to KIA were advised to plan their journeys well in advance to avoid potential delays. BTP further recommended alternative routes, including Hennur Cross and Bagalur Road, which lead to the airport’s south gate, to ease the congestion.
Rehearsals for the biennial Aero India Show have already begun, adding to the
vehicular chaos. The event, which attracts defence personnel, aviation
enthusiasts, and industry leaders from across the globe, is expected to impact
flight operations. Airlines have also notified the passengers regarding
possible delays or cancellations in the coming days.
The State government has scheduled the Global Investors Summit around the same
time. With high-profile attendees and increased vehicular movement, the City’s already
burdened infrastructure is expected to face more strain. Hotels in Bengaluru
are reportedly fully booked, indicating a further rise in the number of
visitors.
