Karnataka's Home Minister, G Parameshwara, has expressed significant discontent with the Union Budget 2025, labelling it "unprogressive and disappointing." In a statement to ANI, he highlighted the budget's failure to address critical issues such as housing for the underprivileged, irrigation projects, and educational infrastructure.

"This is the most disappointing Budget for Karnataka. We expected a better allocation than last time," he stated, emphasising the state’s requests for funding for rural housing and key irrigation projects, including Upper Bhadra and Mekedatu, which remain unsupported. Additionally, he noted the lack of funding for the establishment of IITs and IIMs, asserting Karnataka's position as a leader in education.

Parameshwara further criticised the budget for neglecting essential sectors such as agriculture and industry, expressing concern that it reflects a lack of consideration by the government.

The Congress Party also condemned the Union Budget, with former Finance Minister P Chidambaram arguing that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has not adhered to the Chief Economic Advisor's suggestions for deregulation. He predicted average growth rates of 6 to 6.5 percent for 2025-26, contrasting sharply with the 8 percent target posited for a developed economy.
