Bengaluru, 9 JAN

The Bajrang Dal has submitted a formal proposal to authorities, urging them to prohibit unmarried couples from checking into OYO hotels in the City. The proposal was submitted to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Tushar Girinath and City Police Commissioner B Dayananda.

The appeal was led by former District Convenor Tejas A Gowda, who cited a recent decision by Oyo in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where the company implemented a rule barring unmarried couples from booking rooms. Oyo has announced plans to extend this policy to other cities in the country. Bajrang Dal activists are now demanding that a similar policy be enforced not only in Bengaluru but across Karnataka.

The petition also calls for the extension of this restriction to homestays, lodges, service apartments, and other hotels, arguing that such accommodations could potentially foster inappropriate behaviour or become hubs for illegal activities. The Bajrang Dal has urged the BBMP and the Bengaluru Police Commissioner to take their appeal seriously.

Tejas Gowda, addressing the media, expressed particular concern over areas like Shantinagar, BTM Layout, Jayanagar, and Bommanahalli, which are perceived as central hubs of the city. Gowda alleged that boys and girls are often allowed to cohabit in paying guest accommodations (PGs) under the guise of live-in relationships.

"This is a Western culture that we must oppose. Boys and girls should either stay in separate PGs or hostels. There is no tradition in our country that supports them living together," he asserted. Gowda further claimed that many such accommodations lack proper permissions and that authorities, including the police and BBMP officers, have been turning a blind eye to these activities.

Speaking to Salar News, Bhargavi, Social Media Head, OYO Bengaluru, confirmed that there are no such directives from the company yet. "Oyo will hold a meeting with the authorities in Bengaluru before making any official statement. So far nothing has been decided," she added. -Salar News
