BENGALURU, 23 DEC
City police commissioner B
Dayananda on Monday instructed personnel to ensure that CCTV cameras in malls,
pubs and public areas are in proper working conditions ahead of New Year
celebrations.
During a high-level meeting, the
Commissioner instructed senior officers, including Additional Commissioners,
Deputy Commissioners of Police, and other officials, to discreetly gather
intelligence on organisations or individuals opposing New Year festivities. He
emphasised the importance of taking precautionary measures to avert any
untoward incidents on New Year.
"Special attention must be
given to ensuring the safety of women during the celebrations," Dayananda
stated. He directed immediate action against anyone involved in molestation or
harassment, urging officers to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
With recent surges in rowdy attacks
and drug peddling activities, the Commissioner highlighted the need for
heightened vigilance. He instructed all personnel to carry essential equipment,
including service revolvers, helmets, and batons, to be prepared for any
contingencies.
Dayananda further ordered strict
action against those engaging in disruptive behaviours, such as breaking
bottles on roads or creating chaos outside bars and restaurants.
To maintain order, the police have
deployed additional teams, with Hoysalas (mobile patrol units) and Cheetahs
(bike patrolling) tasked with intensified patrolling across the city. - Salar
