A 28-year-old man wanted in at
least four criminal cases was beaten to death by his relatives when he
allegedly threatened to kill his infant son on Monday night at his house in the
Siddapura police station limits, police said.
Police identified the deceased as
Salman, a man with a history of criminal behaviour and a history-sheet opened
at the Siddapura police station in his name. He worked as a metal fabricator
and resided in a slum in Dayananda Nagar and was frequently involved in
disputes with his wife and relatives, they said.
The incident took place on Monday
night when Salman’s in-laws and other relatives visited his house to mediate
after a quarrel between him and his wife. However, during the discussion,
Salman reportedly began abusing his wife and her family members.
An official involved in the
investigation told Salar News that the situation escalated when the family
contacted the police. In a fit of rage, Salman set fire to a relative’s
two-wheeler parked outside the house and fled before the police arrived. The
police registered a case against him.
Salman returned home around 3.15am
and picked up his 20-day-old son while wielding a knife. He allegedly
threatened to harm the infant unless his relatives did not withdraw their
complaint against him.
In the ensuing scuffle, the
relatives managed to rescue the baby. Salman, overpowered and beaten up by his
relatives, suffered severe head injuries. He was rushed to NIMHANS, but
succumbed to injuries around 10.15am, police said. -Salar News
