Bengaluru, 29 Nov

Following three days of intense search, police on Friday arrested the 21-year-old accused in the murder of an Assamese woman Maya Gogoi in Devanahalli. The accused, Aarav Hanoy had fled from the City after allegedly murdering his girlfriend.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru East) D Devaraj said that Hanoy was apprehended by the police outside the State and is expected to be brought to Bengaluru later in the night.

A native of Thottada in Kannur, Kerala, Hanoy worked as a student counsellor at a private institution in Bengaluru. Investigations said that he and Maya, 19, had been in a relationship for six months, having met through social media. However, due to an unknown issue, their relationship turned sour.

"Maya had shared details about their relationship with her cousin, who stayed with her in HSR Layout. As per the Call Detail Records (CDR), the chats between Maya and the accused suggest they planned to meet to resolve a disagreement," said a senior police official.
Gogoi’s body was discovered on 26 November, after the service apartment staff alerted the police after a foul smell emanated from the room.  According to police, Hanoy fled to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh after the murder. He surrendered himself, they said.

"This was a premeditated act of violence, and we are committed to ensuring justice," said Devaraj. —Salar News
