BENGALURU, 10 NOV
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda urged the citizens to take public transport instead of using their vehicles to travel in City.
"The only long-term solution
to our traffic problem is public transport. The ones who are making opinions on
traffic congestion travel in SUVs and cause congestion. The most vulnerable
person is the pedestrian. Another irony of traffic is that every person thinks
the other person is responsible for the problems. Everybody thinks rules apply
to others," Dayananda said.
The City police chief was speaking
at ‘World Public Transport Day’ event organised at Kempegowda Bus Station to
raise awareness regarding the traffic on Sunday. Joint Commissioner of police,
traffic, MN Anucheth also attended the event.
As of September, Bengaluru has more
than 1 crore registered non-transport (private) vehicles. During the last
month, the City saw an increase of around 1,000 motorcycles and scooters, and
409 new cars were added daily.
However, City's public transport
system doesn't not reach out to all areas. Dayananda said, "We are working
together to improve first and last-mile access by collaborating with government
agencies. BMRCL has seen increased footfall with the completion of Purple Line,
and this trend is expected to continue as more Metro projects are finished.
Thanks to the stupendous success of the Shakti scheme, the Karnataka government
is finally acknowledging the need for more buses and staff," Dayananda
added. -Salar News
