In a unique protest, against the pothole crisis in the City, people took to the streets at City’s Babusapalya on Monday morning crafting paper boats, racing them in the waterlogged potholes, drawing attention to the dire situation in this eastern part of the City, home to thousands of tech workers. to highlight the poor condition of local roads.

 

With authorities turning a blind eye towards the crisis, the residents shouted slogans against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

 

Videos of the protest went viral on social media, with many users to criticising BBMP for the persistent issue which became worse after the heaving rainfall in the City. A user said, “There needs to be mass protests across Bengaluru. Sadly, we have to protest for basic facilities that most nations take for granted, even nations poorer than us.”

 

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar assured that he ordered the officials to make the City, pothole free. He said, “I have asked the BBMP Commissioner to fill all the potholes in Bengaluru in the next 15 days. The civic body found 2,795 potholes across the city, and they will be filled at a cost of Rs 660 crore. Compared to previous years, people are now less affected by rains.” -Salar News
