Bengaluru, 12 Oct

The long-awaited Cauvery Stage V Water Supply Project is set to become operational on 16 October, bringing a sigh of relief to around 50 lakh residents of Bengaluru. Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Saturday.

The Cauvery Stage V project will add 775 million litres per day (MLD) of water to Bengaluru's existing supply, significantly boosting the city's water capacity. Currently, the city receives 1,500 MLD of water, distributed across four stages. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has already provided 10.64 lakh water connections, and the new phase will add another 4 lakh connections.

A key component of the project is the construction of India's largest water treatment plant at Thorekadanahalli, which will process 775 MLD of water. The treated water will be channelled through a 110km steel trunk pipeline and stored in reservoirs across Bengaluru, ensuring equitable distribution. -Salar News
