Traffic police officers and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Bengaluru South division will tag along with people during their daily commute to understand the traffic problems faced by them. The campaign titled 'Join The Commute' campaign is led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru South - Traffic) Shivaprakash Devaraju.

Speaking to Salar News, DCP Devaraju said, “This initiative is the first of its kind in India and could be extended to other divisions based on its success. The campaign will be recorded in body-worn cameras and documented for better analysis. Infrastructure projects may limit immediate solutions to traffic issues in some areas, but the campaign will help police in addressing other problems like parking violations and footpath riding.”

Citizens can participate by registering on the campaign's portal at https://jointhecommutebstp.in/english/, where the commuters can provide details about their daily routes, preferred modes of transport, and commute timings. Selected participants will then be joined by the DCP or other traffic officials during their morning or evening commutes. This approach enables the officials to gain insights from road users who navigate the same routes daily, making them more aware of specific issues.

This campaign comes in response to Bengaluru's notorious traffic congestion, as the City ranks sixth globally for traffic congestion in 2023, according to a report by an analytic firm TomTom. –Salar News
